The best websites to help you de-stress at your desk
The internet is a never ending source of distraction, but there are also a number of useful resources to help you out when you feel a bit overwhelmed.
Sometimes taking a deep breath is all you need to jump back into a big task. For other times, there are these six websites.
When your procrastination starts to cause you stress, this website will block access to anything you ask it to for a set period of time, also determined by you. It’s helpful for stopping yourself from checking your Facebook notifications or endlessly refreshing Reddit. There’s a free option and a paid version which will sync all of your devices and allow you to set scheduled blocks of time in the future or on a recurring timetable.
Do nothing for 2 minutes
Exactly what it sounds like, this website has a simple timer that counts down from two minutes to zero. Your goal is to not touch your mouse or keyboard in this time. If you have headphones, gentle ocean sounds play. Close your eyes and listen to waves crash on the beach for two minutes, then go back to your work feeling a little more relaxed.
Possibly the best game with no real goal ever. Play as Casanova the giraffe and click your mouse button to stretch up to kiss the other giraffes. The repetitiveness means you won’t be stuck on this for hours, but the cute factor will bring a smile to your face.
Not really into the cute factor? Flow is a similar concept where you play as a small ocean creature and have to guide your character to food in order to get bigger. Come back and play for one or two minutes whenever you need it — your character won’t die.
The thoughts room
Have you ever wanted to just shout out because you’re stuck on something, or maybe you need to vent? Some people write in diaries to help out with this, but now there’s a website for that! Just click through the initial instructions then you can type out your inner thoughts and watch them simply float off the page. It’s surprisingly calming to watch your worries and concerns disappear.
Many people find the sound of rain to be peaceful. This website allows you to choose from different types of rain, playing the sounds on a perfect loop for you to have as white noise in the background.
