An Update on My 100 Goals
About a month ago I listed 100 goals to achieve by the end of 2018. Here’s how they’re going (if I haven’t listed the number, I haven’t made any progress on that goal — see the original list here):
4. Get 6k Startup Muster surveys
Ok I was a bit wrong in how I was measuring this goal, and I wrote the list of goals before our collection period, so I would say this is a misguided goal — but nonetheless we are on schedule for our collection period which isn’t over yet!
5. Sew a cheongsam dress
I bought fabric and the pattern, now I have to learn how to read the pattern.
6. Get 50 schools to participate in my personal research project
I got 51! The cut off date was yesterday
10. Make 1 zine per month
I made one in June, I haven’t made one in July but I have been collecting materials and content for it!
15. Plan + book 2019 Europe trip
I signed up to Travel Mustard, and we picked the dates for flights etc
20. Make pjs + a shirt for my boyfriend Will
I made the pjs!
23. Go on a picnic
I didn’t even remember this was a goal and completed it by accident. I went with Will to the Art Gallery of NSW to see the John Russell exhibition, then we went to the Botanic Gardens, played Hive, and chilled out on our picnic rug (which we bought last year and this was the first time we’ve used it)
32. Exercise minimum twice a week
I’ve been doing static trapeze classes once a week, and working on scheduling in the second session and sticking to it and not thinking work events are more critical for me to be at.
36. Read a physical book daily
Check! Currently reading a Stephen King short story, Mad Enchantment (a biography of Monet), and Bella Zanesco’s Smart Girls Screw Up Too, along with articles out of a few magazines I bought and haven’t gotten around to finishing.
38. Do a keynote
Check! I did a talk at Macquarie Incubator about the state of Australian startups.
39. Mentor three programs
One down, two organised! I mentored a team from the UNSW female founders program, and I’m booked in to go visit the teams from the Generation Entrepreneur high school program next week, and the Hut 34 hackathon in September!
41. Interview an astronaut
CHECK! Literally got off the phone 25 minutes ago, article to come soon.
49. Produce a properly scripted video
I’ve storyboarded and workshopped my idea with a few people.
50. Complete my analysis of the Fortune 500
I’m like 70% done on this, I’ve gotten really lazy with finishing it though so this is the kick up the butt I need to get back to it.
52. Enter a local photography contest
There was a specific one I had in mind when I wrote this, I took the photo I had planned on the weekend just passed but honestly I don’t even know if they’re still accepting submissions because I procrastinated on it.
55. Run a mental health campaign for Startup Muster
It’s coming out next week, I’ll provide links in the next goal update.
65. Bake more
I have indeed been baking more, including a rhubarb almond tart, several breads, and cookies.
72. Support one artist each month
I did in June, haven’t in July, and will double up next month.
73. Design a consumer product
Kind of, I’m getting one of the guys from the coworking space I work from to help me 3D print something (oooo exciting my first 3D print experience) and I’m waiting for it to finish printing. I was supposed to see the first one today but he didn’t come in to work.
75. Upgrade my camera lenses
When I wrote this I meant buy new ones, but I got second hand ones (several months ago) which I finally took to the repair shop to get cleaned and put back in working condition, and I got them back last week. I’m yet to use them.
77. Complete the sunflower puzzle we’ve had for over six months
Complete, but Will did most of it. It was 1,000 pieces and I’ve learned I don’t have the patience or interest for a puzzle that big.
84. Watch more foreign films
I watched the Netflix documentary about Josef Fitzl over the weekend. It wasn’t great but it was in German!
87. Buy vegetables from farmers markets where possible
The rhubarb from my rhubarb almond tart was from a local farmer.
95. Stand up for sexism when I see it
I can strongly confirm this.
And that’s all I’ve worked on in the last month! 24 goals have either been achieved or I’ve made progress on them. That’s almost a quarter, I’m quite proud.
